One of Junior Auxiliary of Cleveland's most beloved traditions is our annual Teddy Bear Picnic, a free community event held each year at our local library. For more than 26 years, this special project has brought together children, families, volunteers, and community partners for a day filled with fun, learning, and memorable experiences.
Designed for children ages 4–7, the Teddy Bear Picnic welcomes approximately 200 children each year during late summer or early fall. Young guests are encouraged to bring along their favorite teddy bear or stuffed animal to share in the day's adventures. The event celebrates literacy, imagination, and community while helping children become familiar and comfortable with the resources available at their local library.
Throughout the event, children participate in a variety of engaging activities, including:
- Creative crafts and hands-on projects
- Interactive games and educational activities
- Special story-themed experiences
- A library scavenger hunt designed to help children and families explore the library and learn about its services
- Opportunities to meet a friendly teddy bear mascot who strolls through the library greeting children and posing for photos
Every child receives:
- A brand-new book to take home and enjoy
- A snack pack
- A festive balloon
To add even more excitement to the day, children can enter drawings for prizes, including new bicycles and teddy bears.
The Teddy Bear Picnic is more than just a fun event—it's an opportunity to encourage a lifelong love of reading, introduce families to valuable community resources, and create positive memories centered around literacy and learning. Generations of local children have attended this cherished program, making it one of Junior Auxiliary of Cleveland's longest-running and most impactful projects.
